A Little Rain and Lots of Chaos

Well, it wasn't exactly a "little" rain. It was more like lots of scary rain. We were watching a video last night so we weren't aware that a twister was on its way to Pville! All of a sudden the doorbell is ringing madly and someone is knocking on the door as if they are trying to knock it over. Ken yells for us to stay upstairs. (I am sure, he too, thought there was someone dangerous at the door.) At first, he refuses to open the door. "Who is it?!" It was raining so hard that the lady at the door couldn't hear Ken and it was so dark that Ken couldn't see her standing at the door. Finally, he opened to find our neighbor from down the street, Rachel, frantically yelling at him to get the kids and to hide in the bathroom. "There is a tornado heading right for us!!" First, let me say, that I can't believe this mom of five kids cared enough about us to run several houses down to let us know. I am sure she must have gone door-to-door letting everyone she knew know about the impending doom. Ken and I, five kids, and one confused Guinea pig all crammed into the half bath downstairs. I can imagine that scene would have made a good Seinfeld episode!

This morning we had two large bushes that were completely uprooted! A street sign was also bent over. There was debris all over the place. We saw a dead dog or perhaps even a coyote in the field behind our house. Amazingly, Alex was the only who seemed to remember the previous nights events. The younger kids were as happy and animated as always. All of them went to bed tonight without incident.
